What we do
Three things, done properly
Baker Automotive is a general workshop. Whatever is booked in, it goes on the hoist, gets looked at properly, and you get told what it actually needs rather than what would be easiest to sell you.
Fault diagnostics
A warning light on the dash is a symptom, not an answer. The workshop is set up to trace the fault properly, then tell you plainly what it is and what it will take to fix.
Minor and major repairs
Brakes, radiators, suspension, exhausts and everything in between. Small jobs get squeezed in where they can be, and the big ones get done once, properly.

Baker Automotive is run by Peter Baker on Thornfeldt Street in Stawell. It is a well equipped workshop, and it is deliberately a small team, so the person who diagnosed your car is usually the person who fixed it and the person who explains it to you afterwards.
Between them, Pete and Jake have over 45 years behind the spanners. Riley keeps the workshop moving, and Jenny runs the office, which is who you will usually get when you ring to book something in.

I had a great experience with PS Baker Automotive. Peter is an excellent mechanic, very honest, reliable, and really knows what he's doing. He took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure the job was done properly. It's hard to find someone you can truly trust with your car, but Peter definitely delivers.
Great service, great team, always come back, been going to Peter for about 6 years now, honest reliable mechanic, great price, service the car every 10 000 kms, always tells me what's needed.
We had a problem with our car whilst on holiday. Peter was the nearest Mechanic we could find. He prioritised us amongst his busy schedule to take a look and quickly diagnosed the problem. The fix was equally fast and we were back on the road with minimal fuss. Cannot rate him highly enough. A genuine 'great bloke'.
Peter is great! It has become very rare, but he is one of those who takes the time to explain and shows you exactly what needs to be done. I was just traveling through. He is super busy, but took the time to have a look and nice chat. Very grateful for that!

Part of the town, not just parked in it
Baker Automotive has backed the Stawell Show for years. In July the Stawell Agricultural Society put up a sponsor spotlight thanking the workshop for its continued support as a long standing sponsor, and thanking Peter by name.
The workshop also sponsors at the Stawell Harness Racing Club. On Stawell Cup day in November 2025, one of the races on the card was run as the PS Baker Automotive Pace.
